5. PWRBRK function
The PCIe specification details an optional PWRBRK function, which reduces the power consumption of the peripheral for the duration that the PWRBRK signal in the edge connector is asserted.
C600 cards do not implement the full configurable specification for PWRBRK. There is however a simplified version where the IPU clock frequency is reduced to 550 MHz for the duration that PWRBRK is asserted. This will significantly reduce the power consumption of the card, with the actual resulting power consumption depending on the workload.
As an example, a typical application will take 185 W running at the IPU clock frequency of 1500 MHz. Under the PWRBRK condition, the power consumption of this example will drop to less than 100W.
