4. Thermal protection
The C600 card contains internal thermal protection mechanisms which should only be triggered in cases where airflow fails or there is some other fault condition. A register available on the SMBus shows whether any of these protection mechanisms have been triggered.
Initial mechanisms reduce performance while maintaining card operation and will recover once the temperature reduces. These might be seen for high inlet temperatures or poor airflow. Protection mechanisms at higher temperatures will only trigger under card fault conditions and will result in the loss of the application session.
A summary of the protection mechanisms is given in Table 4.1.
